Among the "non sacred" vessels, some of which now have only historical significance, are the containers for wine and water and for unconsecrated hosts, implements for washing of hands, the altar-cross and candle-sticks, the cup for the ablution or cleansing of the communicants mouth after reception of the sacrament, the pax-brede for the sign of peace, the sacring bell, the container for holy water and the sprinkler or aspergillium as well as the thimble and incense-boat.
